Starting July 27, AliExpress will charge fees on orders under $50 due to new Brazilian tax rules. From August 1, all shipments to Brazil must comply with the new import tax rates, impacting the cost of purchases significantly.
Starting July 27, AliExpress will implement a new fee for purchases under $50. This decision follows new Brazilian tax regulations which eliminate tax exemptions on international purchases up to $50. President Lula approved these changes in June, and the new tax rules will be effective from August 1, 2024.
According to the new tax rules, all shipments arriving in Brazil from August 1 must comply with these regulations. AliExpress explained in an email that all orders placed from July 27 onwards will be subject to these new tax rules. The company aims to align with the new tax framework and ensure compliance with Brazilian laws.
The new tax structure includes a 20% import tax on shipments under $500, in addition to the 17% ICMS tax. This means a total impact of approximately 44% on the shipment value. For orders between $500 and $3,000, the import tax remains at 60%, but a $20 discount on the product value is provided. These changes are expected to affect the overall cost of purchases significantly.
AliExpress communicated these changes to its customers and partners via email. The company highlighted the importance of understanding the new tax implications for future purchases. "All purchase orders placed on AliExpress from July 27, 2024, onwards will take into account the new tax rules," stated the platform. These updates are crucial for customers to consider when making international purchases from the platform.
