On 14th November 2024, Assos of Switzerland filed a lawsuit against Asos. The legal battle is over breach of contract. This marks a repeat conflict since Asos paid $25.8M in 2016 to settle previous trademark issues. Assos is owned by TZP Group.
Assos of Switzerland has filed its second lawsuit against British e-commerce giant, Asos, as reported on 14th November 2024. This latest claim focuses on a breach of contract and has named Asos Plc, Asos.com, and Asos France as defendants. While the specific details of the lawsuit have not been disclosed yet, it signals ongoing legal strife between the two companies.
This is not the first legal issue between Assos and Asos. In 2016, Asos paid approximately $25.8 million to settle a trademark infringement case involving Assos and German retailer Anson’s Herrenhaus. This lawsuit dates back to earlier disputes that began in 2010, highlighting a long history of conflict over branding and rights.
Assos is currently owned by TZP Group, a US private equity firm that acquired a majority stake from the Maier family back in 2015. Assos has built a solid reputation in the cycling apparel market, which might explain its strong stance against what it views as breaches in contract and trademark violations by Asos.
Following the 2016 settlement, Asos' former CEO, Nick Beighton, expressed satisfaction in resolving that dispute, stating it was a "right commercial decision for our business." The new lawsuit puts pressure on Asos to address these legal challenges effectively while also protecting its brand and reputation in the competitive e-commerce sector.
