DHL plans to expand from 15K to 30K parcel machines in Germany by 2030. Nikola Hagleitner confirms 2K new machines will roll out by 2025.
DHL currently operates 15K packing stations and post offices across Germany. By 2030, the company aims to double this to 30K. By the end of 2025, 2K new machines will be added. This includes contributions from its subsidiary DeinFach, starting with 60 machines this January. Nikola Hagleitner, DHL’s board member, shared this strategy to make parcel delivery more convenient and sustainable.
DHL’s machines allow 24/7 parcel pickups and drop-offs. Hagleitner stated that denser networks mean shorter trips for customers. Currently, 14.2K packing stations handle parcels, while 800 post offices also offer stamps, letter services, and video advice. This expansion aligns with rising e-commerce demands in Germany.
DeinFach will provide multi-functional machines usable by DHL and competitors like DPD and GLS. This shared access model encourages efficiency across the logistics industry. Retailers and other carriers will also use these machines, supporting a shared infrastructure to streamline operations and reduce redundant trips.
Competitors like DPD and GLS are enhancing their parcel networks but trail behind DHL's extensive expansion. DHL’s planned 30K machines would cement its position as a leader in logistics. This scale gives customers easy, 24/7 access to their parcels while cutting delivery costs and increasing satisfaction.
Will DHL's expansion make traditional post offices obsolete?
