Temu has outpaced Amazon in Denmark. 71% of Danes recognize Temu, while 22% made a purchase within the last year. The Chinese platform is now more popular than Amazon and eBay, making it the third most recognized online store in Denmark.
A recent analysis by the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI) reveals that 71% of Danes now recognize Temu, making it more popular than Amazon and eBay. While neither Amazon nor eBay operates directly in Denmark, Temu's aggressive marketing has made it a household name. "Temu has breezed into Danes’ consciousness," said DI’s retail branch director, Jacob Kjeldsen.
Temu is now the third most recognized online shopping platform in Denmark, following Zalando and Boozt. Its success in Denmark is attributed to massive online marketing and low prices, which have resonated with Danish consumers. In the past year, 22% of Danes made a purchase on Temu. Another Chinese platform, Shein, also gained traction, with 46% recognition among Danes.
Despite its success, Temu faces scrutiny from the EU for potential rule infringements. The platform, along with Shein, is under investigation for non-compliance with European business practices and product standards. DI highlighted a consumer rights test that found 30 out of 38 Temu products failed to meet standards, raising concerns about unfair competition and consumer safety.
The EU’s Digital Services Act could impose significant penalties on Temu if it fails to comply with regulations. Companies like Temu could face fines of up to 6% of their annual revenues. "We must have safe products for consumers and fair competition standards for Danish businesses," Kjeldsen emphasized. The European Commission has given Temu until October to comply or face consequences.
