Walmart unveiled three major additions at its 2024 Seller Summit. These include Premium Beauty with 20+ brands, a new pre-owned marketplace with 5M items, and a collectibles category with 0% commission fees until Oct. 31.
Walmart introduced three new categories during its 2024 Seller Summit. The event, held on August 27th, revealed Walmart’s latest strategy to enhance its Marketplace. The new additions include Premium Beauty, a growing range of collectibles, and a dedicated section for pre-owned items. These moves are part of Walmart's strategy to offer customers a wider selection and give sellers more opportunities to grow their businesses.
Walmart is launching a new Premium Beauty section on its Marketplace. Over 20 brands, such as COSRX and T3, are featured in this category, offering products like skincare and hair tools. This initiative includes custom storefronts and editorial content to provide an elevated shopping experience. According to Tom Ward, Walmart U.S. executive vice president, "Walmart continues to advance its digital capabilities, including the new categories and features we announced today, that enhance the overall customer and seller experience."
Walmart's new pre-owned section, Resold at Walmart, features 5 million items from 1,700 sellers. Customers can shop for luxury fashion, electronics, and more. Walmart is also expanding its collectibles section, adding pre-orders and 0% commission fees until October 31st. Items in this category range from action figures to trading cards and sports memorabilia. These changes are aimed at attracting both budget-conscious buyers and collectors.
Walmart's Marketplace has seen over 30% sales growth in each of the last four quarters. With new categories and expanded offerings, Walmart is aiming to continue this trend. The number of sellers on Walmart.com grew by 20% last year. Walmart’s global eCommerce sales surpassed $100B, driven by its omnichannel strategy. This includes initiatives like Walmart Fulfillment Services and Walmart LocalFinds, which connects customers with local sellers for fast delivery.
