Starting today, Walmart introduces e-commerce inside Roblox, allowing players to buy real-world items. This pilot runs through May, targeting U.S. users over 13. It could redefine virtual shopping, leveraging Walmart's vast retail network.
Today marks a new era for Walmart as it launches an e-commerce feature within Roblox. Users can browse and buy real items from the virtual "Walmart Discovered" storefront and receive them at home. This innovative shopping model operates entirely within Roblox, featuring a special browser window setup for a seamless shopping experience.
"Our checkout process is very secure, handled by a robust Walmart API," explains Justin Breton, Walmart’s director of brand experiences. Customers enter their shipping and payment details in a secure format, and confirmation is immediate. The process is designed for safety and simplicity.
Walmart has collaborated with Roblox creators to 'Robloxify' several items, such as a hobo bag, a tumbler, and headphones. These items feature both virtual and real-world versions, bridging the gap between digital and physical shopping experiences.
"We are testing real-world commerce to eventually integrate it more fully," says Roblox vp of economy, Enrico D’Angelo. The trial aims to understand user preferences and adapt future offerings accordingly, potentially positioning Walmart as a leading commerce provider on Roblox.
