Founded in 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, Wolt started small but quickly grew. In a decade, it expanded from 1 city to 1,000 across 28 countries. Wolt has helped generate €19B in economic activity, thanks to its delivery services and support of local businesses. Of this, €15B came from sales for local merchants, while €3B was generated in earnings for 450,000 couriers. This growth has transformed Wolt into a vital part of the local economy in many regions.
Wolt's impact on food delivery is undeniable. Over 130M burgers have been sold, making it the most popular food order. The company's services have expanded far beyond food, with grocery sales alone hitting €1B annually. Non-restaurant orders now represent 20% of Wolt's total business. From groceries to TVs and even prescription drugs, Wolt’s platform has grown to deliver almost anything, making life easier for customers.
Wolt has introduced several innovations, including its Wolt+ membership program. Since 2021, 1M people have subscribed to Wolt+, enjoying zero delivery fees, exclusive discounts, and savings. Over €200M has been saved by customers through this program. This has encouraged more frequent orders and greater customer loyalty, further boosting the company’s growth and impact.
Wolt has hit impressive milestones. The longest delivery was a 4,000 km trip from Georgia to Germany for Euro2024. Wolt delivered iPhones, laptops, and routers worth €8,559, the most expensive order to date. Additionally, Wolt facilitated 1M flower orders and recently celebrated 1M pet supply orders. Co-founder Miki Kuusi reflected: "It’s been incredible to grow Wolt into a local commerce platform, creating new earning opportunities and supporting businesses worldwide." He sees this as just the beginning for Wolt and the industry.
