Zalando is ordered by UOKiK to improve customer information and give $10 vouchers to customers who bought from platform partners since January 2023. This decision follows complaints about unclear seller information on Zalando’s site.
In July last year, UOKiK started investigating Zalando. They found that customers were not properly informed about the sellers on the platform. This caused confusion about whether buyers had full consumer rights. UOKiK's probe was to ensure transparency and protect consumer rights.
UOKiK mandated Zalando to improve its website information. Customers need to know if they're buying from Zalando or a partner. The changes must align with the Omnibus Directive. This directive, effective since January 2023, sets clear rules for online platforms.
Zalando must also give a $10 voucher to all customers who bought from partners since January 1, 2023. This voucher can be used within six months for purchases directly from Zalando, not from partners. This measure is to compensate for the lack of clear information.
Many companies, including Glovo, Uber Eats, and Amazon, have adapted to the Omnibus Directive. UOKiK is also monitoring other platforms like Booking.com and Travelist.pl. These actions show a broader push for transparency in online marketplaces to protect consumer rights.
