The new partnership introduces AI-powered Samsung fridges that let users order groceries directly via Instacart. Launching in 2025, it promises a smarter kitchen experience.
Samsung and Instacart announced a multi-year partnership to integrate grocery shopping technology directly into select Samsung refrigerators. Starting with the 2025 Bespoke models, users can order groceries via Instacart using Samsung’s AI Vision food recognition technology. This feature identifies up to 37 food items and suggests replenishments, making meal prep easier. Existing Samsung AI Family Hub+ fridges will also receive this capability via a software update in 2025.
Instacart’s product-matching API is the backbone of this innovation. The API, unveiled in March 2025, allows companies to add Instacart’s grocery shopping functionality into their devices. It’s already powering shoppable recipes with partners like The New York Times Cooking and GE Appliances. Samsung’s use of this API enhances user convenience, blending AI food recognition with streamlined grocery ordering on the fridge’s touchscreen.
The Instacart-Samsung partnership follows similar smart kitchen innovations by Kroger and Whole Foods. In late 2023, Kroger partnered with GE Appliances for oven-enabled grocery shopping. Whole Foods teamed up with June’s smart ovens to automate cooking. These efforts highlight growing competition in the smart kitchen sector, as brands race to deliver seamless grocery and cooking solutions.
Instacart Chief Product Officer Daniel Danker called the partnership “the stuff of science fiction.” It aligns with Instacart’s broader vision of using AI to simplify everyday tasks. Grocery e-commerce surged during the pandemic, prompting the company to expand its technology offerings. This partnership could further position Instacart as a leader in smart kitchen integrations, bringing convenience and innovation to millions of homes.
