Microsoft launched two retail ad products, Curate for Commerce and Sponsored Promotions by Brands, simplifying campaigns and monetizing first-party data for retailers.
Microsoft is diving deeper into retail media with two new ad products: Curate for Commerce and Sponsored Promotions by Brands (SPB). These tools aim to help retailers and brands adapt to a changing landscape where first-party data reigns supreme. Curate for Commerce lets retailers monetize their data via non-endemic ads with minimal tech investment. Retailers like Kohl's are already piloting this innovation, with Microsoft managing the ad relationships and operations.
The Sponsored Promotions by Brands (SPB) tool simplifies advertising. It operates on a cost-per-sale model, allowing brands to run a single campaign across Microsoft Edge, Bing, and partner retail platforms. This eliminates the hassle of managing multiple campaigns for each retailer. Currently in beta, SPB is expected to officially launch later this year, offering advertisers an efficient way to reach more shoppers with precision targeting.
These new tools reflect the growing importance of first-party data in retail media as third-party data becomes less reliable. Microsoft’s solutions enable precise targeting and better ROI for advertisers. As Anu Adegbola, an advertising expert, noted, “This shift is not just about better data but also smarter operations, benefiting both retailers and brands.” The cost-per-sale model also reduces risk for advertisers, making this a win-win for all involved.
Microsoft is strategically positioning itself in the lucrative commerce media space, valued at over $100B. By simplifying campaign setups and offering data monetization tools, the tech giant is helping retailers and advertisers navigate the future of retail media. This move solidifies Microsoft’s role as a key player in a market expected to grow rapidly as data privacy regulations increase reliance on first-party data.
Will these tools redefine retail media advertising?
