Shein returns to India with Reliance Retail, five years after a ban. The app ensures full local control, boosting India’s textile sector.
Shein is back in India after being banned in 2020. The fast-fashion giant partnered with Reliance Retail for its relaunch. Reliance owns the new Shein India Fast Fashion app. Shein operates only as a tech partner with no control over data.
Reliance Retail is India’s largest offline retailer. However, it struggles online against Flipkart, Amazon, and Meesho. This Shein deal strengthens Reliance’s e-commerce ambitions. Unlike Ajio, this app is a standalone platform under Reliance’s control.
Shein will offer delivery in key cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. Prices start at just $2.30 with no delivery fees. All products are made in India. The government approved the deal under strict security audits and local data storage rules.
Since 2020, India banned 300+ Chinese apps, including Shein. The government made an exception due to local manufacturing and strict oversight. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that the deal boosts India's textile industry while ensuring data security.
Will Shein’s Reliance-backed return reshape India’s fashion market?
