On November 12, 2024, DPD launched Ottobot, an autonomous delivery robot in Milton Keynes. This robot has eight compartments and can carry up to 70 kg. It aims to improve delivery efficiency and meet customer needs in real-time.
On November 12, 2024, DPD became the first UK parcel delivery company to deploy the Ottobot. This delivery robot, created by Ottonomy, has a maximum payload of 70 kg and features eight separate compartments for carrying packages. The launch is set in Milton Keynes, known for its robot-friendly layout and pathways.
Ottobot sports advanced technology, including four-wheel powered swerve drive and independent steering. Sensors and cameras allow it to navigate complex environments autonomously. The robot supports efficiency by enabling multiple deliveries in a single trip.
DPD has already been testing autonomous deliveries since July 2022. The Ottobot will utilize Milton Keynes' traffic-free routes, making parcel delivery smooth and quick. Customers will be notified via SMS when their parcel arrives, using a secure code to access it.
According to Tim Jones from DPD, Ottobot increases productivity and enhances customer service. He hopes that these robots could also work as mobile drop-off points, reflecting DPD’s commitment to delivering innovative solutions in logistics. Ottonomy’s CEO, Ritukar Vijay, praises DPD for leading in the robot delivery market.
