Chinese e-commerce platform Temu is recruiting Korean staff and developing a local logistics network to strengthen its presence in South Korea, following a strategy similar to AliExpress.
Temu, the e-commerce platform under China's PDD Holdings, is making significant strides in South Korea. Since late 2024, the company has been hiring local employees in areas like human resources, marketing, and logistics. This move aims to strengthen its foothold in the Korean market.
Beyond staffing, Temu plans to establish an integrated logistics system in Korea. Currently, it partners with local firms such as CJ Logistics and Hanjin Shipping for deliveries. By developing its own logistics network, Temu seeks to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Temu's efforts are paying off. As of January 2025, the platform boasts 8.23 million monthly active users in Korea, ranking third after Coupang and AliExpress. This rapid growth underscores Temu's successful market penetration strategy.
Industry experts note that Temu's approach mirrors that of AliExpress, which entered the Korean market by localizing operations and building a robust logistics network. By adopting a similar strategy, Temu aims to solidify its position in Korea's competitive e-commerce landscape.
How will Temu's local hiring impact South Korea's e-commerce market?
