Waitrose has partnered with Just Eat to grow its footprint in the convenience and on-demand grocery sectors. This deal will allow customers to order food and drink from 229 stores across major UK cities, including London, Manchester, and Glasgow. Deliveries will take 30 minutes or less, offering greater convenience to consumers. This aligns with Waitrose’s strategy to meet rising demand for fast grocery delivery.
Waitrose’s on-demand grocery sales have surged by 140% in 2024, showcasing the increasing demand for quick and convenient shopping solutions. Executive Director James Bailey remarked, “As demand for greater convenience has grown, so have expectations of convenience food.” This partnership with Just Eat aims to capture even more customers who want high-quality groceries delivered rapidly, maintaining Waitrose's commitment to quality.
Just Eat customers will have access to thousands of Waitrose products, including its premium Waitrose No. 1 line and its Essential Waitrose range. Other available products will feature Waitrose Duchy Organic, fresh ready meals, vegan and free-from options, and British brands such as Gail’s Bakery and Deliciously Ella. Customers will enjoy an extensive selection, from wines and beers to daily grocery essentials.
Waitrose isn’t stopping with its Just Eat collaboration. The retailer plans to open up to 100 new convenience stores over the next five years, adding to its 90 existing stores at Shell petrol stations and 27 stores in Welcome Break service stations. This multi-channel expansion reflects the growing importance of convenience in the UK grocery market and Waitrose's ambitions to dominate the sector.
